Shepherds Hut - Build Specifications

Chassis: 4" x 2" box steel continually welded, with front turning axle all painted with heavy duty chassis paint.   

Wheels: 5 spoke steel wheels constructed from box steel and 10mm plate.

To the chassis we fix 3" x 2" and 4" x 2" tanalised timber floor joists, which we then cover in moisture resistant hardboard to enclose the thermal insulation.  Further cross floor joists are fitted and then finished with 22mm tgv flooring.  The flooring is treated with a protective coating against insect infestation and boards are fixed with secret nails.

Walls: The walls are constructed from 2" x 2" pse graded timber at a minimum of 400 centres, all frames are glued and screwed.  The timber is then covered with a moisture breather membrane (the same as a timber house). 16mm x 125mm tgv is then applied and fixed with galvanised nails.  The tongues of the external tongue and groove timber are painted in your chosen colour prior to construction, this is to allow for timber movement and make sure that all timber is treated. 

All wiring for sockets, lights and consumer unit are installed and then thermal insulation is fitted.  Finally the internal 16mm x 125mm tgv is applied and fixed with secret nails.

All external walls are then painted with 1st coat in the relevant colour.

Roof: Arched laminated beams are fixed to the walls at 500 centres with 3" x 2" noggins, tgv is fixed to the inside to support the thermal insulation, a 9mm structural ply is fitted and covered again with a breather membrane prior to fitting of Plastisol curved tin roof.

A further coat of Cuprinol paint is applied to the walls before door and windows are fitted.  The door is fitted with a mortise lock and windows with catches and window stays and the glass is then fitted.  All door and windows are painted prior to installation to protect all timber.

The second fix electric ie sockets etc are fitted and shelving and cupboards are made in house for consistence of construction. A wood burner can then be installed if required.

The final external coat of paint is applied, the wheels are fitted and the Hut is ready for delivery.
